Inmate Medical Care

Callaway County contracts with Cardinal Health to provide inmate medical care at the county jail. Inmates have access to a jail nurse and jail physician, both of whom are employees of the medical contractor. While it is understood inmates may have a primary physician outside of the facility; while incarcerated, medical related matters are addressed by the medical contractor. Should an emergency medical situation arise, inmates may be transported to a local medical facility. For safety and security considerations, secondary notification of such inmate transfer to a medical facility may not be immediate. Pursuant to 221.120, RSMo, inmates are responsible for the assessed costs of any medical care.
