Deputies arrest armed felon with methamphetamine after vehicle pursuit near Hatton

DEPUTIES ARREST ARMED FELON WITH METH AFTER BRIEF VEHICLE CHASE NEAR HATTON

Arrested person information:  

Michael Stewart, 50, of Columbia, MO

Joe Sherrill, 48, of Kingdom City, MO

Narrative:

On December 11, 2019, at approximately 1:51 AM, a Callaway County Sheriff’s Office deputy was proactively patrolling the Hatton area.  During the patrol, the deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on State Road M south of Hatton for a traffic violation.  The vehicle driver, identified as Joe Sherrill, 48, of Kingdom City, attempted the elude the deputy and ultimately stopped after nearly crashing into a tree off Stephanie Court.

The deputy captured Sherrill and a vehicle passenger, Michael Stewart, 50, of Columbia, as they were exiting the vehicle.

The deputy found Stewart, a convicted felon (convicted of Robbery 1st in Callaway County according to Case.net), to in possession of a loaded handgun and methamphetamine.  At the time of Stewart’s arrest, he was under the supervision of the Missouri Department of Corrections — Board of Probation and Parole.

Sherrill was transported to the Callaway County Jail where he was booked/processed for Resisting Arrest and related traffic offenses.  Sherrill later posted a $2,500 bond and was released.

Stewart was transported to the Callaway County Jail where he was booked/processed for the felony offenses of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Stewart is being held without bond pending Court bond review.
