Williamsburg man arrested for Domestic Assault 1st and four other felonies after a disturbance involving a firearm

On July 20, 2017, the Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney charged Richard Tipton, 51, of Williamsburg with the felony offenses of Domestic Assault 1st, Domestic Assault 2nd, Armed Criminal Action, Tampering with a Victim, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (felon in possession of a firearm).  Tipton remains incarcerated in the Callaway County Jail pending the posting of $60,000.00 bond.  The charges are the result of a Callaway County Sheriff’s Office investigation conducted on July 19, 2017.

On July 19, 2017 at approximately 6:59 p.m., deputies responded to the 5000 block of O’Keefe Ridge Road within the Kindgom of Callaway Estates neighborhood, near Williamsburg, for a reported domestic disturbance involving a firearm.  While responding deputies, learned that the suspect, Richard Tipton, had fled the scene in a vehicle.

During the investigation, it was learned that Tipton physically assaulted and choked the victim several times before obtaining a rifle.  Tipton allegedly pointed the rifle at the victim’s head and made homicidal threats to the victim if they contacted the police.

At approximately 8:34 p.m., deputies patrolling the area stopped a vehicle in which Tipton was a passenger in and he was taken into custody for the afore mentioned charges.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming.  NO FURTHER INFORMATION WILL BE RELEASED AT THIS TIME.
