Williamsburg man arrested for discharging a firearm after argument over fireworks

Date:  July 2, 2017

Arrested person information:

David Garriott, 75, of Williamsburg

Reporting officer:  Lt. Curtis Hall

On July 1, 2017 at 11:03 PM, Callaway County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Green Meadows trailer park, located just outside of Fulton, for a report of an adult male that had threatened several people by displaying and discharging a firearm.  The act had reportedly occurred during a verbal disagreement over a peace disturbance issue (fireworks related).

Deputies interviewed numerous witnesses to the event who identified David Garriott as the male who had displayed and discharged the firearm.  Deputies arrived at Garriott’s residence to interview him and found him to be in possession of a pistol on his person.  As deputies went to disarm Garriott,  he allegedly reached for the pistol and struggled with deputies as they disarmed Garriott and took him into custody.

Garriott was arrested and transported to the Callaway County Jail where he was released to the Jail staff on charges of Felony Unlawful Use of a Weapon, four counts of Assault 4th, and Felony Resisting Arrest.  Garriott later posted a bond of $5,000.00 and was released pending a court date.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming.  NO FURTHER INFORMATION WILL BE RELEASED AT THIS TIME.

End of press release.
