CALLAWAY COUNTY THREE (3) HOUR MANHUNT ENDS WITH FELONY ARREST
On June 7, 2017 at 3:27 p.m., Callaway County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a suspicious activity report along State Road UU near County Road 113 northeast of Fulton. Upon the arrival of deputies to the area, they encountered John Atterberry, 43, of Portland. Deputies knew that Atterberry was a wanted felon / fugitive. Atterberry subsequently fled deputies on foot, leading to the response of several other deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers. A perimeter was established and a Missouri State Highway Patrol K-9 unit responded to assist. At approximately 6:48 p.m., deputies encountered Atterberry near Wildflower Road off County Road 123. Deputies again pursed Atterberry on foot, during which, Atterberry was captured and arrested.
At the time of Atterberry’s arrest, he was wanted for Callaway County and Warren County warrants for the following charges: Felony Resisting Arrest, Felony Domestic Assault, Felony Narcotics violations, Felony Burglary, and Felony Stealing.
Atterberry was further arrested for Felony Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Felon in Possession), Felony Stealing, and Felony Property Damage as the result of a Sheriff’s Office investigation initiated on the arrest date involving the theft of firearms from a vehicle at a State Road UU residence.
Atterberry was further arrested for Felony Resisting Arrest regarding a Sheriff’s Office investigation near Portland on April 29, 2017, during which Atterberry again fled deputies on foot and was able to escape capture.
Atterberry was further arrested for Felony Resisting Arrest regarding his flight from law enforcement officers on the arrest date.
Atterberry remains in custody at the Callaway County Jail without bond.
