Portland woman arrested for endangering welfare of a child after deputies investigate missing child

Date:  October 9, 2017

Arrested person information:

Rhonda Becker, 44, of Portland

On October 8, 2017 at 8:27 p.m., the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 8000 block of State Road D near Portland for a reported missing four (4) year old child.  It was reported the child had last been seen 1 ½ hours prior to the call to the Sheriff’s Office.  Several deputies responded, to include off-duty deputies, and a search / investigation was initiated given the call details.

Upon arrival to the residence, it was determined the reporting person, Rhonda Becker, was intoxicated.  Becker was the caregiver for the child at the time of incident.  As deputies searched the area for the child and began to contact associates and family members, it was learned a family member had earlier stopped by the residence; found Becker passed out (while providing care for the child), and took custody of the child unbeknownst to Becker due to her intoxicated condition.  Deputies located the child at 9:51 p.m. and verified the child was safe.

After further investigation, Becker was arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and transported to the Callaway County Jail where she remains in custody.

The State of Missouri Children’s Division was notified of the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming.  NO FURTHER INFORMATION WILL BE RELEASED AT THIS TIME.

End of press release.
