Portland man arrested in Colorado after Callaway County charges of Statutory Sodomy and Statutory Rape

Narrative:

On June 29, 2017, the Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney charged William Chamness, 54, of Portland, MO with four counts of Felony Statutory Sodomy 1st and one count of Felony Statutory Rape 1st. The charges are the result of an extensive investigation conducted by the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office, initiated on March 5, 2017, involving two child victims.

At the time of charges, Chamness had fled from Callaway County. Callaway County Sheriff’s Office investigators worked with law enforcement agencies in several states to locate and apprehend Chamness. During the follow-up, an investigative lead was developed that Chamness had possibly fled to the State of Colorado.

On July 9, 2017, the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Chamness had been apprehended by the Longmont, Colorado Department of Public Safety. Chamness is being held in Colorado pending extradition proceedings and return to Callaway County for court proceedings.

The State of Missouri Children’s Division assisted with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming. NO FURTHER INFORMATION WILL BE RELEASED AT THIS TIME.
