Date:  December 2, 2018

WANTED PAROLE ABSCONDER ABANDONS YOUNG CHILD ON SIDE OF ROAD WITH DEPUTY NEAR WILLIAMSBURG– FLEES TRAFFIC STOP — ARRESTED 20 HOURS LATER AFTER EXTENSIVE FOLLOW-UP

Arrested person information:

Kevin Jones, 32, of Fulton

Narrative:

On November 30, 2018, at approximately 11:03 PM, a Callaway County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop near County Road 163 and Old Highway 40 west of Williamsburg.  During the traffic stop investigation, the driver, later identified as Kevin Jones, had a small child in the vehicle.  As the deputy continued the traffic stop investigation, Jones attempted to deceive the deputy be providing a false identity.

While the deputy was attempting to determine Jones’ actual identity, he abruptly removed the child from the vehicle and fled the traffic stop leaving the child roadside with the deputy.  The deputy remained with the child and provided the vehicle description and license plate information to surrounding agencies, however law enforcement officers were unable to immediately locate the vehicle.  The deputy was subsequently able to identify the child and later reunite the child with family.  Upon the deputy positively identifying Jones, it was determined he was wanted by the Missouri Department of Corrections for violating parole.

On December 1, 2018, at approximately 2:32 PM, deputies received a call from a citizen who reported Jones’ vehicle abandoned in a field off County Road 153.  Deputies responded and seized the vehicle.

On December 1, 2018, at approximately 7:00 PM, deputies arrived in the 5300 block of County Road 204 near Fulton and subsequently searched a residence and located Jones where he was taken into custody without incident.

Jones was released to the Callaway County Jail without bond on charges of (Felony) Resisting Arrest along with the aforementioned parole absconder warrant.   Further charges will be referred to the Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney.

NO FURTHER INFORMATION WILL BE RELEASED AT THIS TIME.
