SHERIFF’S OFFICE K9 UNIT LOCATES STOLEN VEHICLE IN KINGDOM CITY – COLUMBIA MAN ARRESTED AFTER SUBSEQUENT VEHICLE PURSUIT ON US HIGHWAY 54

On April 28, 2020, at approximately 4:53 AM, a Callaway County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit was proactively patrolling the Kingdom City area. During the patrol, the deputy spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen to the St. Louis, MO Police Department. The K9 unit, assisted by a second deputy, attempted to stop the vehicle near the US Highway 54 – Gold Road intersection in Kingdom City. The vehicle failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued on westbound (south) US Highway 54 to Fulton.
Once reaching the US Highway 54 – State Road F interchange in Fulton, the Fulton Police Department deployed tire deflation devices which the suspect vehicle stuck. The suspect vehicle continued and ultimately came to a stop west of the US Highway 54 – State Road H interchange near Fulton.
There, the driver, Shawn Vandyke, 17, of Columbia, MO was taken into custody. Vandyke was arrested and transported to the Callaway County Jail. Vandyke was later released with summons for later Court appearance.
