Narrative:

On May 16, 2018 at 2:53 PM, Callaway County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of State Highway 94 and State Road D near Portland.  Several citizens reported a suspicious person in the area.  While deputies were responding, further information was received that a male subject had attempted to steal a vehicle at a residence and then crashed the vehicle into a second vehicle and a residence.  The subject then fled on foot.

Upon the arrival of deputies to the area, they located the male subject, later identified as Michael Schnieders, 28, of Mokane, in downtown Portland.  Upon contact with Schnieders, he initially provided deputies with a false identity.  Schnieders was found to be a wanted fugitive out of Cole County for felony probation violation and failure to appear offenses.

Schnieders was taken into custody and transported to the Callaway County Jail.  Schnieders was booked/processed for the Cole County charges, in addition to Callaway County probable cause offenses of Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, Felony Property Damage, and Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident.  Schnieders is being held without bond (per the Cole County warrants).
