Benton City man arrested for narcotics distribution

Date:  September 9, 2017

Arrested person information:

Charles Pugh, 47, of Benton City

Narrative:

On September 9, 2017, the Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney charged Charles Pugh, 47, of Benton City with Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia.  Phelps is currently being held in the Audrain County Jail for other local charges in Audrain County.

The Callaway County charges are the result of a Callaway County Sheriff’s Office traffic stop conducted on September 7, 2017.  On that date, at 9:34 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on State Road B near County Road 1013 for speeding and lane violations.

During the traffic stop, the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit alerted on the vehicle and during a subsequent search of the vehicle, approximately two pounds of marijuana, suspected methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia were recovered.

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office continues to work with other law enforcement agencies and members of the community to combat drug offenses, many of which times are related to other criminal offenses.  Citizens are reminded they can provide drug information anonymously to Crimestopper’s at 573-592-2474 or online at www.callawaysheriff.org.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming.  NO FURTHER INFORMATION WILL BE RELEASED AT THIS TIME.
